What is particular about Devon

Devon's recommended calendar has 197 school days: schools then set two occasional holiday days and five staff training days from these, leaving 190 teaching days.

The dates are set after consulting all Devon maintained schools and union representatives, and after discussion with neighbouring authorities to promote consistency across the South West where possible.

The council recommends that schools place their occasional days so as to avoid split week holidays, but says this is the responsibility of school governors.

The summer term runs late in July: it ends on Tuesday 27 July 2027 and Tuesday 25 July 2028.

Schools tell the council their non-pupil days and opening times after the core dates are published, and must publish their own term dates and school times on their website.

The council offers schools a spreadsheet to mark their term dates, with one tab per academic year.

Like all local authorities, Devon County Council has a duty to set the term dates for community and voluntary controlled schools in their area. We recommend these dates for adoption by governors of foundation, voluntary aided, trust maintained, academies and free schools.

Academies and free schools are not bound by the 1999 Regulations but are encouraged to provide the same number of education days in each year. Term dates and holidays for individual establishments may vary, so check your own school's arrangements.
