Of the five INSET days, the council sets one as the first day of Term 1 (Tuesday 1 September 2026); the other four are set by each school within the 195 days and communicated to parents.
In 2027-28 the council's INSET day is Thursday 2 September 2027 and pupils start on Friday 3 September.
In 2027-28 Term 4 runs to Friday 7 April 2028 and the spring holiday is Monday 10 to Friday 21 April 2028, so the summer term starts on Monday 24 April, a week after Easter Monday.
The 2027-28 PDF text names Wednesday 1 September 2027 as the first day of Term 1, but its calendar shades 1 September as a school holiday and 2 September as the INSET day.
