Aberdeenshire Council calendar for 2026-27 and 2027-28: October holiday 12 to 23 October 2026, then Christmas holidays from 23 December 2026.
Aberdeenshire schools go back on Wednesday 19 August 2026 and the 2026-27 school year ends on Thursday 1 July 2027, according to the calendar published by Aberdeenshire Council. The October break lasts two full weeks, from 12 to 23 October 2026, twice the usual half term in most of England. Christmas holidays run from 23 December 2026 to 4 January 2027, with pupils back on Tuesday 5 January 2027. February mid-term is 8 February 2027, only 1 days. The Easter holidays cover 26 March to 9 April 2027, taking in Good Friday and Easter Monday. The summer holidays start on Friday 2 July 2027. That leaves 192 weekdays in school once the 5 in-service days fixed by the council are taken out. The 2027-28 calendar is already published: school starts on Wednesday 25 August 2027 and the October break is 11 to 22 October 2027. What is particular about Aberdeenshire
Aberdeenshire lists term dates per school: occasional days (local holidays that differ between schools and areas) are added on top of the common calendar, and parents pick their school from a dropdown to see them.
Schools go back later than in most of Scotland: pupils start on Wednesday 19 August 2026 and Wednesday 25 August 2027, after two in-service days.
The October holiday lasts two weeks (12 to 23 October 2026).
The February break is one midterm holiday on a Monday followed by two in-service days, so pupils are off for three days.
The summer term runs into July: term 4 ends on Thursday 1 July 2027 and on Thursday 6 July 2028.
The council already publishes common dates for 2028-29 and 2029-30, without local holidays, which will be added closer to the start of each year.

How Aberdeenshire compares

It moves away from the usual pattern for its october holiday (12 to 23 October 2026, where 4 of the 7 Scottish calendars on this site have 12 to 16 October 2026) and february mid-term (8 February 2027, where 4 of the 7 Scottish calendars on this site have 15 to 16 February 2027).
