Glasgow term dates 2026-27 and 2027-28
Glasgow City Council calendar for 2026-27 and 2027-28: October holiday 12 to 16 October 2026, then Christmas holidays from 21 December 2026.
Glasgow schools go back on Wednesday 12 August 2026 and the 2026-27 school year ends on Friday 25 June 2027, according to the calendar published by Glasgow City Council. October holiday is 12 to 16 October 2026. Christmas holidays run from 21 December 2026 to 4 January 2027, with pupils back on Tuesday 5 January 2027. February mid-term is 15 to 16 February 2027, only 2 days. The Easter holidays cover 5 to 16 April 2027, after the Easter weekend. The summer holidays start on Monday 28 June 2027. That leaves 190 weekdays in school once the 5 in-service days fixed by the council are taken out. The 2027-28 calendar is already published: school starts on Wednesday 18 August 2027 and the October break is 11 to 15 October 2027. What is particular about Glasgow
Teachers return two days before pupils each August: in 2026 teachers return on Monday 10 August for two in-service days and pupils return on Wednesday 12 August.
Glasgow schools close for the September weekend, a Friday and the following Monday (25 and 28 September 2026).
The October week is preceded by an in-service day on the Friday, so pupils are off from Friday 9 October to Friday 16 October 2026.
The February mid term break is three days for pupils: two holidays followed by an in-service day on the Wednesday.
An in-service day on Thursday 6 May 2027 is set to coincide with elections, and the council says it may be subject to change.
Schools close early on the last day before the Christmas and spring holidays (2.30 pm) and at 1.00 pm on the last day of the summer term.
The council already gives Monday 14 August 2028 as the proposed date for teachers to return after the 2027-28 year.

It moves away from the usual pattern for its spring holiday (5 to 16 April 2027, where 3 of the 7 Scottish calendars on this site have 26 March to 9 April 2027) and summer holidays (28 June to 13 August 2027, where 1 of the 7 Scottish calendars on this site have 2 July to 20 August 2027). A family with children in two areas should check these weeks first.
In the Scotland region, North Lanarkshire and South Lanarkshire share the same Easter break, while Aberdeenshire, Edinburgh, Fife and Highland use different Easter dates.
